Weathering
There are many different types of weathering
such as:
-Mechanical Weathering: breaking rocks into smaller peices (but they still have the same mineral make up)
-Frost Wedging: water gets into or is absorbed by the rock, the water then freezes and later thaws. The cycle repeats it's self and breaks down the rock
-Unloading: large massed of rock are exposed by erosion and large slabs begin to break loose and fall (which can cause landslides).
-Biological Activity: when organisms like (for example) plant roots, animals burrowing or humans break down rock.
-Chemical Weathering: changing the internal structure of minerals by adding or taking away elements.

Chemical Weathering
Chemical weathering is when the internal structure of a mineral is changed by adding or taking away elements.
For example if I have gold, only gold and chemical weathering occurs and adds silver I will no longer have just gold because the inturnal structure has been changed. Just like if I had gold and silver mixed and chemical weathering occured and took away the silver I would have just gold because the inturnal structure has been changed.

Mechanical Weathering
Mechanical weathering is a force breaking down rocks without changing their internal structure. For example if I wanted to put an in ground pool in my back yard I would have to get a big machine to dig the hole. As it is diging it hits some rock only breaking it into smaller peices not changing the inturnal structure.
